Luckily we are able to follow the Olympics a bit. For me the moment is the gold medal of our fellow Dutchman - and former cancer patient - Maarten van der Weijden. What a life story and persistence, Maarten you are the man.
Overhere everything is fine unless you count the arguments and haggling with various departments on who should we hire, why, including to ensure all questions to be asked are provided - including the correct answers - before the actual interviews are being taken. So much for a clear process.Had a minor discussion with our subcontractor of the laundry. Found out - after negotiating the price downwards - that he wanted to use the old materials available instead of the new materials as mentioned in the quotation. He not so happy but Malesh. It is MSF money. In meantime finished the waterworks..2 new tanks of 1500 ltr on the hospital, including a watercooler to replace the iceblocks we are buying now to cool down the water for the patients in the waiting area.Unfortunately we are having - again - problems with the old 7kva generators - so daily phonecalls again - no electricity and no coolers functioning.Anyway we have finished the waste zone and the laundry so now up to new tasks at hand. A new plan and budget for 2009 which - as there is not a field coordinator here - i am also overseeing..amazing to talk about strategies on female genitile mutilation as a non medical and sound profesional too....what an experience. better enjoy it until it lasts. Yesterday we went on a picnic with the local staff to Aroos...around 1.5 hrs north of Port Sudan. Was nice, fishing, laughing, joking and was a good break for the local staff before ramadam will start early september. No food and drinks between 6am and 6pm.Am curious how they will cope.
