Rituba Katir or High Humidity and Heat

Living in Hong Kong and Singapore allowed for some experience in hot and humid weather conditions. However this week i think there was a record...humidity 60pct, temp.39C however if you were outside it was if you were in an oven. According to the weather station the chill factor was 56C. What an experience especially with local staff on Ramadan schedule no food and fluid between 7 and 7. Do not know how they cope??. Also been alone for 2 weeks as our Midwife went on training to Nairobi and sometimes it is nice to have some solitude but was nice to have receive some visitors this week. In meantime agreed to sign a new lease for an expat house, agreed on a new 40Kva generator to be brought in from Khartoum, send a proposal for initial electrical rewiring of the hospital but the icing of the cake is the negotiation on the building of the new Out Patient Department. Total area of 135 SqM with 8 rooms, a new gate and 4 latrines. Hope to finalize negotiations and paperwork within 2 weeks so we can start and finish before 1st November. If so the last 6 weeks of my mission will be a little bit easier and more relaxed although this also depends if our new FieldCo will arrive otherwise will still wear 4 hats. The day after tomorrow will fly to Khartoum for budget and plan 2009 discussion with Coordination Team which is another experience as i have to discuss medical objectives and goals....hahaha we will see..

PS. Now being Half a Century or 50 years only reminds me that life is too short and that my motto "a day not laughed is a day not lived" is something i will never forget..
