another 2 weeks in paradise

last 2 weeks have been busy. we had a major discussion together with Log/Tech from Khartoum on what to do for the next few months. we decided that the out reach clinic in ungwab needs a major overhaul in view of toilet ie. latrine, waiting area renovation and clinic post itself. as we are aiming in finishing all works for the end of the month and with 4 holiday in teh next 2 weeks the pressure is on. Besides that we discussed also the electricity issue - not stable and with frequent powercust and old generators - at the tagadom hospital it is not helping in providing the healthcare we like to give. The hospital is providing ante and post natal services, has a delivery room, a male and female ward, therapeutic feeding center and a plan for an operation theatre which will function without stable electricity. The latter also effected our aircons at the warehouse where the medical supplies are stored which took 2 hours to solve togehter with a local technician. so everyday get up at 630 do a check with the guards - check the water tank as it seems to be leaking - have morning meeting- visit hospital to check all is ok - ( sometimes also at nite ) - return to base - talk with finance and admin on the issues and if nothing happens an easy day finish around 6. if not it can easily be 8. I am not complaining as it allows me to do things again i have not done since moving to hong kong in 1997. make my hands dirty..yippie...

Hans, de foto's geven een "aardig" idee van wat er allemaal loos is en de staat waarin dit alles verkeerd. Mijn hemel, de wacht ruimte is dus helemaal niets. De generator ook niet, om nog maar niet te spreken van de latrine. Ik hoop dat de verbeteringen die jullie trachten aan te brengen niet al binnen een jaar weer naar de knoppen gaat. Overigens, gaat alles ok in HK. Niet veel nieuws. Op het consul generaal gaan de beide Jannen ons verlaten. Onze voorzitter wordt opgevolgd door Alexander. Zojuist de HK Fair afgesloten. Nou dat is ie weer. Hoop spoedig weer iets van je te horen.

the soccer outfits look pretty professional though; perhaps you could collect and sell them and use the proceeds in further improving the hospital standards. it seems that you have a tough job on your hands there, so wish you all the best with it. just remember Khartoum is still preferable over Butenpost anytime.

wij zijn nu hier op terschelling met pa en ma, greet en alie zijn gisteren weer naar his gegaan, alles oke. ook met pa en ma. pa slaapt hier weer beter als thuis.wij gaan vandaag weer naar huis, en pa en ma blijven nog even een 10 dagen.
