Workwise was confronted with resignation of the logbase supervisor a week before i came, when i arrived the admin staff had measles so in other words understaffed and no clue where to start or begin with. So started with reconnoitering of the town including the tagadom hospital and the outpost clinic in ungwoab. And there is a lot to do and I must say what lucky we are in the western world with our healthcare systems - we better cherish it. My medical collegues are heavily involved in training and transfering knowledge on basic healthcare, ante and post natal information and nutrition. Again no access to basic human needs like water and food effects the human existence greatly but this is not only in Port Sudan. During the week met some lovely expats from Kenia, Phillipines, Holland, Engeland, Australia, France which we invited - as a counter treat - for a nice dinner at our roof terrace. Great as it ended with a karaoke competition.Sincerely hope the neighbours were not home. Thanks World Food Program for your goodies it was the icing on the cake. Due to still having a local travel permit was able to visit a reservoir - around 2 hours drive from Port Sudan - which supplies the town with fresh water,although the local delivery goes by tank truck - like to our base - or drum - donkey carts to the shanty town area. Also visited the 3000km2 african park conversation - 3 hrs drive on the way north to egypt - run by a dutch guy. Great!! Was able to scuba dive and for sure nice fish - and the cleanest water i have seen so far in all my diving trips.

Hans, de foto's geven een goede impressie denk ik van je omgeving. Lijkt me wel een enorme omschakeling van hk of Sgp naar Sudan. Ik hoop dat je tijdens je verblijf in staat wordt gesteld om wat te veranderen of bij te dragen. Ik hoop ook dat het je die voldoening geeft die je zocht. Pas svp goed op je gezondheid want het lijkt me daar niet altijd even gezond. Zie je volgende bericht weer graag tegemoet. Groetjes en laat me weten of we wat voor je kunnen doen.

ook al wat aan logistiek gedaan? We zijn inmiddels 6 weken in Nl en 5 weken ziek en het sneeuwt!! B heeft ook al wintertenen. Tussen het gesnotter door heeft Anna vandaag een sneeuwman gemaakt, op de foto gezet en is ze vervolgens op de verwarming geklommen. Hadden we maar een dagje 40C. Na een sneeuwbui, vanmorgen 800km file, brug bij zaltbommel afgesloten gweest, etc, we worden wel op de proef gesteld. Succes
