Since being here in March we did not have a drop of rain, no water, nothing nada. Scorched soil, hot air and high humidity was the flavour of the day. But this week we had rain.Man it poured like in singapore or Hong Kong. So we had some flooding as the soil is so compounded that the water will not soak away. And of course we had some leakage in the base, the other expathouse, the hospital and the waiting area of the Woman Health Clinic came crashing down due to the gusts of wind and rainfall. Exciting. In meantime the OPD was finished on time and in time after exactly 45 days of hard labour and i must say the guys did a good job. No on the next tasks: Operation Theatre renovations ie. installing revolving doors which were a pain to find, relocate the pharmacy to the Therapeutic Feeding Center, clean the OT and hire a medical technician to install the medical equipment. Also we had another interesting meeting the labour office committee where i nearly lost it due to their inappropiate behaviour and the constant changing of rules and regulations - without prior notice or not even mentioned in the labour law. It is just a shame that personal greed and self promoting is stopping educated young people to get a job with us since the last 5 months. We also had a townhall meeting with our staff to inform them on what is going on: why we had to fire staff - due to reading mail and causing internal rift by spreading negative news among the staff on the project. On the positive we told them that since 1 january 2008 we had the following and here come the figures:
- 72714 OPD consultations
- 19857 WHC consultations
- 11513 ANC consultations
- 1124 Deliveries
and that's with 44 local MSF Staff and 68 Hospital staff more or less working 24/7/365. Hats off for them.

PS. On a personal note i will be leaving for RnR - as i will have my visa - on 20 November to be in time to see my mother but it also depends if there are any flights from PS to KM as there have not been any since the last 2 weeks.

Not sure if I'm writing in the correct place because everything is in Dutch. Anyway, hope you get the message. I've been impressed with the number of holes you have dug. :) Some of those holes are deep enough to find oil. Any luck? It seems like you're still enjoying it, which is great. I'm sure you get great satisfaction out of what you're achieving. Let me know if you plan to be back in Singapore anytime soon and it would be great to catch up.

It seems as though you are still having fun.
I am now in Jerusalem working for UNRWA getting commodities into Gaza. Arrived last week and am in Gaza now doing a familiarisation for a week and then heading back to Jerusalem.

heel veel succes voor je moeder en uiteraard ook voor jou om op een vlucht naar buiten te komen. Hoop dat alles goed gaat. Hoe lang moet je eigenlijk nog? Hier in Hk alles wel, maar huisprijzen gaan naar beneden, en de Chinese export economie loopt ook een stuk langzamer dan voorheen. Maar goed, laten we hopen dat de nieuwe US president daar wat verandering in kan brengen, evenals de situatie daar. het ga je goed!
